Anaheim Peppers – NOT!

  • Yesterday I went to Sweet Organic Solutions to get some new seeds to plant and I was excited to tell Donna Faye about how well my anaheim peppers were blooming.  I bought the plant from her about 2 months ago. I showed her a picture from my website on my iphone found HERE and she laughed and told me that the blooms weren’t anaheim peppers but they were butterfly weed or asclespia.  She said the seed must have fallen in the plant I bought from her.  It all made sense because I planted the pepper next to some broccoli and didn’t ever see how the pepper was doing until one day I saw these beautiful blooms and was so excited to have peppers.  So yeah I feel sheepish not knowing but hey I am learning all this and I thought it was a funny story to share.  Sooo, no anaheim peppers for me and now what to do with the butterfly weed?  It actually has little “pepper” looking pods on it too… weird.  I think I will replant it somewhere in the yard. At Sweet Organic Solutions, Donna sells them in bigger pots and they are so pretty.  In a garden, and in life too, it seems that the strong survive. It’s like when I get a stray plant out of nowhere I wonder what it is and where it came from.  I once had lots of strange ones all over and finally pulled one to find out that they were coming from sprouted potato peelings from my compost.  Funny how some plants try to grow anywhere they can. …Well drats on the peppers, I was looking forward to eating them – so now I am determined to grow them in the spring… the real ones, not the look alike fake me out butterfly weed.

this is a picture of butterfly weed… uhh yeah…. oops!

anaheim peppers blooming…. just in case you’re wondering what they look like

so here it is, how to find Sweet Organic Solutions… if you live in the Houston Area, it’s worth the drive. Donna Faye has taught me tons about gardening and she is super nice and helpful

the elusive peppers… spring time for sure!
