I’m new to gardening, but I think my favorite thing to grow would be sugar snap peas! I love sugar snap peas!

  • Of course, I love my herb gardens, with thyme and rosemary my favorites, but NOTHING beats a home grown tomatoe!

  • I live in a low income duplex, and we can not change the landscape here, but I have gotten approval to put in raised beds. I am wanting to get some of the young couples in our neighborhood involved in the joys of fresh raised vegetables.
It has been several years since I have gardened, but I feel that it is important for the young couples here to learn the important life skills of having a garden.

  • I love to grow zucchinis and tomatoes 🙂

  • This is a hard question to answer cuz there is so much i love! I LOVE tomatoes! I’m redesigning my garden & would LOVE to win your plans…my fingers are crossed 😉

  • I love growing any veggie that goes in a salad….lettuce, tomatoes, green onions & cucumbers 🙂

  • love them all – any herb , tomatoes, stuff to make salads i think they are the easiest to grow

  • i am fairly new to gardening but love growing nasturtiums and datura! such beautiful flowers! plus nasturtiums are delicious!!! 🙂 thanks for the wonderful giveaway! we’re putting in our very first raised bed this year & are so excited! 🙂

  • I am so new to gardening! But I decided this Year to give it a go now that I have a backyard. I would love your plans-it would help a lot! My favorite veggie? Tomatoes grown on a vine in the sun. Can’t beat that!

  • I love to grow green beans. I love watching them break through the ground, product tiny flowers and grow into beautiful beans.

  • My favorite vegetable is tomato because of the various colors and because my kids love picking them!

  • I sooo want the plans! I need to make the plans in my head a reality. Thank you.

  • I want the plans! new to gardening and have watched my grandparents do it for years. Hope to be like them oneday:)

  • Ä° planted rosemary.

  • My very favorite to grow is peas (shell, not snap.) Next would be tomatoes. I love to grow everything though! (I’m especially fond of my indoor meyer lemon tree.)

  • I’m new to gardening myself – first year in my own place but with my parents my favorite thing to grow was tomatoes!

  • I love growing cherry tomatoes because my daughter enjoys eating them so much. Plus, they are pretty easy to grow. We are going to move our garden to the front yard this year and I am feeling pretty intimidated by the task. These plans would be awfully helpful! Last year we grew pumpkins… only one pumpkin produced and it was very small but I tell ya, it was super exciting watching it grow. We are going to try growing two new types this year as well as many other new things. I am a 5th year gardener and I tell ya, it is not an easy task. Trial and error.

  • I WOULD LOVE TO WIN!!!!! I would say Sun Flowers, and lettuce- never ending salads in the summer!! Plus you can’t get fresher than that. I need to win this!!

  • I loooove growing heirloom tomatoes!

  • Tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, yellow squash, peppers……love having fresh produce in my backyard. Might have to start growing some in the front yard too!

  • Tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes; red, yellow, green, cherry, grape, giant, tomatillos, heirlooms!! Love every tomato!

  • Carrots are my favorite to grow, but I have fun with zucchini and tomatoes

  • I have only grown cannas, ivy, morning glories, gladiolas and irises. the raised gardens seem like a great answer to rising food costs. If your yard is sprinkled by an irrigation system can you still do this? Is it too late to get started? If I sent you a picture of my backyard could you tell me?

  • April,
It’s never too late to garden and sure send me a picture if you like!
I think the irrigation set up will be dreamy!

  • I love growing zucchini squash

  • My boyfriend and I just started gardeningabd want to show others in our household and community that organically home grown food is very good. Our favourite thing to plant is kale and onions, because they’re easy to plant, harvest, and very sustsinable to grow again after harvesting!

  • Pat

Would love the plans. Am redoing my garden to accommodate a growing number of critters and advancing age(bummer).

  • Cucumbers are a favorite to grow. And I would love winning your plans. I’m redoing my garden area this spring. Thanks!

  • Tomatoes and peppers and pumpkins, oh my! But my kids favorite are the carrots! This would really help, hopefully optimistic.

  • Recently retired, I am NEW to gardening! I enjoy eating Kale, broccoli, spinach, bok choy, roma tomatoes and cucumbers. Not sure how to start a garden and whether these vegetable will do well in HAWAII!

Mahalo (thank you) for your time!

  • Thank you so much for sharing all your favorite things to grow with me! Your stories are inspiring and I have loved reading all of them. Best of luck to you all!
    Melanie

  • My favorite veggie to grow is the tomato. If it was not for one Amish Paste tomato, I would not be gardening today. That was my Ah-ha moment. Not only did the thing grow but it fruited. And when I tasted that first fruit….I was hooked. So, today, no matter what I grow, the tomato will always be my favorite.

  • My favorite vegetables to grow are peppers. I love having a.full hedge of assorted hot peppers for dehydrating and grinding into powder for seasoning salsa, stir fry and other various yummy foods. Cayenne peppers and cherry peppers are my favorite hot varieties and red sweet bells are a great addition to anything. I plant them in double raised rows, close together and love to see the bright red colors when they are ripe and ready to eat!

  • Hi!! I just love your site and have gleaned so many great ideas. I don’t have a particular favorite thing to grow but maybe thinking carrots and beets as I love to can, pickle and put them up. Makes one feel so self sufficient. This year I am hoping to turn a very small plot of ground that is not used much into a few raised beds with hinged screens over them to keep out the deer. Thinking of using binder clips to attach clear plastic to this to lengthen the growing season as well! Wish me luck! Would love to have your plans…

  • WATERMELON!!!

  • Brand new to gardening. Looking to build a raised bed to grow in this season so my family will have fresh vegatables to eat. My two young children are looking forwarding to helping their dad build it and grow yummy vegatables.

  • Like most gardeners, I LOVE growing tomatoes, especially Sweet 100s. It is such a pleasure to go out to my gardens and grab a handful of sun-warmed, juicy-sweet little grape-sized tomatoes and toss them into my mouth while checking out the rest of the garden. I love the burst of the skin with the tang of the juice from these little jewels, and I enjoy my garden that much more, just knowing these are waiting for me! I admit, I have to get them harvested daily because the birds love them, too, but I guess I really don’t mind sharing a few—Sweet 100s are so heavy-bearing, I can harvest a nice big bowlful from 6 plants easily every day. Good thing, because my family eats them like candy! Oh, I can’t wait till they’re ready….

  • Home grown tomatoes are the best. I have so many great memories that revolve around them.

  • Has to be tomatoes, just have to plant enough that I can eat them after the dog picks what he wants!

  • My favorite vegetable to grow has to be cherry tomatoes. They are easy to grow and so wonderful right out of the garden!
My favorite flowers to grow are peonies. The big, bright blossoms make me so happy!

  • definitely hot peppers, tomatoes, and herbs!

  • We recently moved into a 100 year old Craftsman with a tiny yard. I love to grow zucchini, tomatoes, strawberries, spinich & other salad greens. Not sure how we are going to put in a garden in this small space. LOVE your comment about no insects!

  • Peas. Because it is the first thing I plant for spring. Sometimes I go out in February and get them in the ground just before a snow storm. Then they come up when THEY are ready!!! I am also weird in that I enjoy shellling peas.. this reminds me of my grandmother 🙂 I have really enjoyed your site and will come back often to see how things are going. 🙂

  • I love growing just about anything! I’ve wanted to try my hand at asparagus, but have mostly done squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes.

  • This will be my first summer trying vegetable gardening. Last summer I gardened herbs and was successful. On to more!

  • My favorite vegetable to grow is chocolate cherry tomatoes. They have a great flavor!
The one flower that I always plant is profusion zinnia. They are covered with butterflies in late summer!

  • I want the plans. I have tried a few times within little success. Live in the barrio, NO grass! All cement. Do you advise about soil?

  • Tomatoes tomatoes tomatoes!

  • I don’t have a lot of experience gardening but we tried cherry tomatoes and liked those!

  • zuchinni is my favorite.

  • I think it would have to be spring peas, and the summer squashs. And Oh, always the sweet peppers. Grew up on a farm and raised around huge gardens. Now time and space do not allow. And as I age, have picked up the family malady. Arthritis, which makes gardening the traditional way, while not impossible, difficult. This method of gardening would allow a lot of produce in a limited space and ease of care and harvest. Just found the site, and I am eager to explore. As the saying goes, its time to get back to my roots. Miss all those fresh veggies, store bought are just not the same.

  • My favorite vegetable to grow is the Tomato Last year I processed over 100 qts of tomato products. I processed plain tomatos, salsa, pizza sauce , spaghetti sauce to name a few.

  • I’ve never gardened before but this makes it look like something i could try. thanks for the chance!

  • I’m new to gardening…I’m in the process of buying my first house and would love to start a vegetable garden with onions, tomatoes, green beans and strawberries. Eventually I’d like to try lettuce, some citrus trees (I live in Florida), herbs and flowers/landscaping, though all that is a bit ambitious for a beginner like me!

  • I’m excited to try gardening in my new home- particularly my own fresh baby salad greens!

  • Congrats on your new home! and I love salad greens too! good luck to you and your garden, Melanie

  • Favorite spring flower to grow would be tulips. Favorite vegetable is cucumber, I know, that is summer and not spring.

  • […] spring give-away contest ended on Monday and the official winner is: Don Myrfield Don check your email for the link to the […]

  • My favorite garden vegetable has got to be green beans. I can’t wait until I see the first blooms and then the tiny beans emerge. Nothing compares to them fresh. We had so many last year that we froze some. I was really disappointed. Just not the same. I would be so excited to get these garden plans. My husband and I are retired and a raised garden would be so much easier for us to take care of. We would be able to garden for many years to come. Many Thanks!

  • So sorry……thought the giveaway was for this year.

  • We live in a rental house and have six kids so these beds would be perfect for us! Would love these plans!

  • We just bought a house, but the only place to grow food is in the triangle shaped front yard. We have no idea what to do with it, except for the fact we need raised beds for ease of access.
