Here’s whats growing in my garden today

  • I was out in my garden yesterday and took these pictures. A few days this week the wind has been fierce so I was glad I still had tomatoes on the vine. In the summertime, I could hardly pick them fast enough, but it seems like in the winter they really take their time turning red. I have heard that it is fine to pick them when they are green and let them ripen in a window. I have several stages of the ripening process in my kitchen window.

The cabbage is still as pretty as ever and I will miss the beauty of it growing someday when I harvest it. I think my broccoli is just about finished producing. I noticed one small side shoot with yellow dots and I think that is a sign of bitterness so I needed to pick that one sooner. The turnip greens got all cut off for Christmas day dinner and are coming back. There are several plants that allow you to cut them all the way down, and they just grow back again. These are: collards, spinach, swiss chard, kale and turnip greens. I am sure there are more, this is just what I have growing now. I love it because you get so many harvests from these greens! And yeah, my carrots are coming up!

these tomatoes drooped over the side and continued to grow so I didn't stake them or pick them up. They are growing fine, just getting bigger.
